Goal: To provide an orientation to the online or blended learning environment for college students or learners seeking continuing professional education.

Description: We have delivered a special version of our 2-week module entitled “Make the Most of Learning Online” for more than 15 years.

Clients have included colleges and universities, as well as the Healthforum Fellowship in Creating Healthier Communities of the American Hospital Association. A version of this module has also been used to teach virtual communication and collaboration skills for clients as varied as the NASA Astrobiology Institute or the Green Businesses of New York.

Faculty Development

Audience: Academic Faculty or Business Trainers

Goal: To provide training on learning theory, instructional design, web-page construction, the use of learning and course management software, and teaching methods appropriate to the online or blended classroom.

Description: In past faculty development programs where we have delivered a pre- and post-assessment, 83% of MAINSTREAM FACULTY (not early adopters!) said they now felt like “intermediate,” “advanced” or even “professional” Web course builders. Two-thirds had called themselves “beginners” prior to the training. (Source: Internal data.)

MadDuck Technologies (Manufacturers of Web-Course-in-a-Box)

Audience: Academic Faculty

Goal: To provide training on how to use Web-Course-In-A-Box course management software that included learning theory and instructional design appropriate to technology-mediated teaching.

Description: We delivered a series of such trainings to MadDuck clients such as Merced College, Missouri State University,  and La Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico, El Recinta de Arecibo, as well as at professional meetings such as Syllabus, Educause, and the International Conference on Computers in Teaching and Learning. As a consequence of this work, we ended up delivering additional training to most of the organizations MadDuck introduced us to.

University of Phoenix, Online Campus

Audience: Academic Faculty Course Developers

Goal:  To develop continuing professional education certificate programs in management, human resources, and information technology, based on existing course content, but tailored for working professionals.

Description: FutureU™ co-founder Claude Whitmyer, led a team of twelve University of Phoenix faculty to develop 16 modules and three certificate programs. The entire program was designed, developed, and delivered 100% online.

California Institute of Integral Studies

Audience: Academic Faculty Program Developers

Goal: To offer an alternative to traditional MBA programs by being among the first graduate programs in the U.S. to integrate right livelihood and sustainable business practices with traditional MBA content and deliver it online.

Description: The program included student-designed learning portfolios and drew participants from throughout the Western United States by holding nearly two-thirds of the curriculum in asynchronous virtual classrooms supplemented with real-time text chat and monthly 2-day in-person sessions. As associate professor and director of this Master of Arts in Business program, FutureU™ co-founder Claude Whitmyer created and delivered training to program faculty on best practices in technology-mediated teaching and learning. Claude’s experience with this project was the seed for what became The University of the Future, LLC, aka FutureU.™
